Jericoacoara is a small fishing village, mecca of windsurfing and kitesurfing located 300 km west from Fortaleza, Brazil.
Until 20 years ago, Jericoacoara was a simple fishing village. There were no roads, no electricity, no phones, no TV’s, no newspapers; money was rarely used.
Since 1984, the lands around Jericoacoara were declared Environmental Protection Area (APA) and later in 2002 became a National Park. This brought many building restrictions and tourism controls.
Electricity arrived in the village and today hot showers and air conditioner are no longer luxury articles. However, street lighting is forbidden by local law.
Jericoacoara is a place far away from the hurried modern world of screeching sirens, traffic jams and endless lineups. A place where streets are paved with sand, where beaches stretch as far as the eye can see and where warm water marries with palm swaying breezes.
Jericoacoara is the perfect venue for every family looking for a place to enjoy holidays and beach life with a light breeze on the beach.
Is not just a great venue for freeriders and freestylers’ training, but every windsurfer can find the perfect playground to enhance their skills and to enjoy winter holidays to the full.
The endless beach offers endless beach breaks as well, with long period and step waves rolling all the year long with perfect side shore wind. These waves are perfect to jump and to train and to enjoy some pure waveriding. The flat zone between the waves allows freestylers to pull every possible freestyle move, and freeriders can taste the pure joy of planning in perfect windy, safe and warm waters conditions.
With wind blowing from June to January and waves rolling from November to April, Jericoacoara offers a great display of conditions.
In the morning the wind is usually light (10/15 knots), so perfect for beginners and windsurf lessons. If it’s lighter it´s possible to paddle around on SUP boards and take the small surf rolling everyday on the bay.
At midday, usually wind becames stronger and conditions can change depending on the tide, switching from a perfect freestyle-freeride arena to an easy wave riding park with side shore wind and 1 to 2 meters step waves rolling in.
For freeride enthusiasts there is plenty of space just outside the bay, with 25 to 35 knots of wind on oceanic long waves… an endless playground…
Wave specialists can test their skills at Malhada beach, right upwind the Jeri250 Center, where they can spot perfect conditions to pull out sky high jumps on big side off wave ramps.
